Saw a post in the group Friday day before going. They sad that there was a herring spawn on Candlestick Point. I never saw herring there but who knows. Halibut rigs were ready. Picked up the cast net too and off we went with regular crew of Alex O and Alex D.
Launched from Oyster Point marina and north we went. It was the very end on incoming tide. Tried our regular spot on the drop off from 15 to 25 foot for nada. Saw two boats rolling to the pier and decided to give it a shot.
We came just in time for the start!
Decided that 3 buckets is enough and went to troll around. It did not want anchovy, it did not want herring that we just caught. Managed to get a couple of hoochie.
Interesting part was that fish was rather deep. 25 feet. Did not see any bait on the screen at all. May be still too early. Did not get a chance to talk to folks on the ramp when coming back. Few folks got some fish while talking to them on the water.
Article about halibut rigs and tackle that we use is coming!
In case you need a cast net you can get it here.
